(1) Why Positive Psychology?

I first came across positive psychology about 5 years ago.
It was a particular dark time in my life. I was doing the first semester of my finance diploma , and my dad passed away from a heart attack at the end of the semester. About six months later I broke up with my girlfriend at the time , who had been a huge pillar of my life. My mum hasn't been a part of the labor force since the day I was born , and the sudden death of my dad put us in this financial crisis which neither me or my mum had the foresight to insure ourselves against. Needless to say it was a lot to juggle for a 21 year old. I was overwhelmed by all these negative emotions which continue to linger around for years to come.
On an idle day of browsing aimlessly in YouTube , I stumbled upon these lecture series translated by an unsung hero. A quick Google search revealed these were the recorded lectures of one of the most well received course of Harvard University. It took me a very long time to finish these lectures , and distill them into important messages and tips that I think will best benefit everyone.
It's important to know that , while I did technically finish the whole lecture series , what you will find in this blog are messages that I personally resonate the most with. I might miss out on some important concepts or ideas that you might find useful yourself , so if you have the time to go through the lecture series , I would highly recommend you to do so. It's a shame that almost a decade after Mr. Tal Ben-Shahar's effort of spreading positive psychology , depression rate and general unhappiness is still on the rise. I hope my tiny effort of creating this blog will help you get through tough phases and challenges of your life , just as how these tips of positive psychology help me overcome mine.
All credits go to Mr. Tal Ben-Shahar , for creating such underrated , yet important course that deserve a lot more attention. I am merely a messenger , and if these messages reach one extra person in the world , I'd consider my job done. As you'll learn later in this blog , happiness and well-being is often contagious. Welcome to the blog of how to be happy , and if you take our journey seriously , you are very likely to lead a happier life at the end of our destination.
